The UFC has officially announced a flyweight rematch between Su Mudaerji and Alex Perez, set to take place at UFC Shanghai on August 29. The booking provides resolution to an unsatisfying first encounter that ended without a winner.

Their original meeting was cut short when an inadvertent groin strike forced Perez to stop, resulting in a no-contest ruling. Both fighters now get another opportunity to settle the matter inside the octagon.

Su Mudaerji carries a 6-4 record inside the UFC, making him one of the more experienced Chinese fighters on the roster. The rematch gives him a chance to build momentum in front of a home crowd.

Alex Perez enters the contest ranked seventh in the flyweight division with an overall professional record of 26-10. The 34-year-old American out of Team Oyama is an active striker, averaging 4.41 significant strikes per minute with a 46 percent accuracy rate, and adds a grappling threat with 2.21 takedowns per 15 minutes and 0.7 submission attempts per 15 minutes.

Why it matters

  • A clear result this time has direct implications for the flyweight top-ten, with the winner strengthening their divisional standing at number seven or breaking into that tier.
  • Su fighting in Shanghai carries obvious crowd and momentum significance for the promotion's continued growth in China.
  • The card's headline bout features second-ranked bantamweight Umar Nurmagomedov of Russia against China's Song Yadong, ranked sixth in the division. Nurmagomedov, 30, brings elite credentials with a 20-1 record, landing 3.86 significant strikes per minute at a sharp 56 percent accuracy while also averaging 4.03 takedowns per 15 minutes. Yadong, nicknamed Kung Fu Kid, counters with volume output of 4.42 significant strikes per minute and a 22-9-1 record going into the fight at 28 years old.
