Arman Tsarukyan has embraced a new identity inside and outside the octagon — but the Armenian lightweight contender admits he came to the "Batman" nickname almost entirely by accident.

Tsarukyan recently revealed that when fans began calling him the "Armenian Batman," he had no idea who Bruce Wayne even was. He has since watched at least one film from the franchise, though he could not recall which one. The nickname has stuck regardless, and Tsarukyan is now leaning into it fully, bat symbol and all, despite his self-described unfamiliarity with the source material.

The 29-year-old Russian-born fighter trains out of American Top Team and sits at number two in the UFC lightweight rankings with a professional record of 23-3. Standing five-foot-seven with a 72-inch reach, Tsarukyan is one of the more complete fighters in the 155-pound division. He lands 3.85 significant strikes per minute at a 50 percent accuracy rate, and adds a persistent grappling threat, averaging 3.26 takedowns per 15 minutes. Those numbers make him a genuine problem for anyone near the top of the lightweight ladder.

Why it matters

  • Tsarukyan is the second-ranked lightweight, meaning his public profile continues to grow whether he leans into a superhero alter ego or not
  • The "Armenian Batman" branding has clearly resonated with fans, giving him crossover appeal beyond hardcore MMA circles
  • Adopting a larger-than-life persona — however accidentally — can elevate a fighter's marketability heading into high-stakes bouts at the top of a stacked division
