Movsar Evloev says he intends to end his run of decision victories in the biggest fight of his career. The Russian contender, who has won all 10 of his UFC bouts on the judges' scorecards, is promising to make Alexander Volkanovski his first finish inside the Octagon when the two meet for the featherweight title.
Evloev has drawn criticism for never stopping an opponent in the UFC. He now says he plans to remove any doubt against the champion. Volkanovski personally backed Evloev for the title shot, but the challenger has made clear that any respect between them stays outside the cage on fight night.
The challenger
Evloev is 20-0, ranked number one at featherweight and trains out of American Top Team. The 32-year-old from Russia is a pressure-based grappler whose numbers reflect that approach. He averages 4.78 takedowns per 15 minutes and lands 3.91 significant strikes per minute at 47 percent accuracy. At five-foot-seven with a 72-inch reach, he is an orthodox fighter who has built his unbeaten record on control and volume rather than knockouts.
The champion
Volkanovski, nicknamed "The Great," is 28-4 and holds the featherweight title. The 37-year-old Australian, who fights out of Freestyle Fighting Gym, is ranked third in the pound-for-pound standings. He is the busier and more accurate striker on paper, landing 5.99 significant strikes per minute at 57 percent accuracy. He stands five-foot-six with a 71-inch reach, giving the two orthodox fighters near-identical physical dimensions.
Why it matters
- Evloev has never lost as a pro, and the title fight is the first real test of that record against an elite champion.
- A finish would answer the main criticism of his career and reshape how his résumé is viewed.
- The matchup pits Evloev's takedown-heavy control game against Volkanovski's higher-output, more accurate striking.
- Volkanovski's support for the title shot adds an unusual layer, given Evloev's stated intention to treat the fight without sentiment.
