Irish police are seeking to question Conor McGregor as part of an investigation into alleged false statements connected to his failed appeal in the Nikita Hand civil case, according to a report dated October 2.

Detectives from the Garda National Bureau of Criminal Investigation are leading the inquiry. As part of it, they have seized a phone belonging to one of McGregor's associates. The report does not specify what the device is believed to contain.

McGregor has been in California since UFC 329 in July, where he has been recovering from the knee injury he suffered in his fight with Holloway. His solicitor says the fighter is prepared to cooperate with investigators. That could happen remotely from the United States, or in person once he is medically cleared to travel.

The fighter

McGregor, 38, is a native of Ireland who trains out of SBG Ireland. He holds a professional record of 22-7-0 and fights as a southpaw. He stands five-foot-nine, or 175 cm, with a 74-inch reach, which is 188 cm.

In the cage, he has landed 5.27 significant strikes per minute at 49 percent accuracy. He averages 0.66 takedowns per 15 minutes and 0.1 submission attempts per 15 minutes, numbers that reflect a career built largely around standup striking.

Why it matters

  • The investigation is separate from his fighting career, but it lands while he is sidelined with a knee injury and no return date has been set.
  • His ability to travel is a factor, since the solicitor has tied any in-person questioning to medical clearance.
  • The seizure of an associate's phone suggests the inquiry extends beyond McGregor himself.

The story is a legal matter rather than a sporting one, and no charges have been reported. McGregor's side has publicly signalled a willingness to engage with detectives.
