Adesanya, a former middleweight champion carrying a 24-6 record, knows Pereira better than most. The Nigerian standout from City Kickboxing holds the eighth-ranked position in the middleweight division and built his reputation as one of the sport's sharpest strikers, landing 4.03 significant strikes per minute at 48 percent accuracy over a career fought primarily out of a switch stance. The 36-year-old's history with Pereira stretches back well before either man reached the UFC.

Pereira enters UFC Freedom 250 as the reigning light heavyweight champion with a 13-4 record and is stepping up to challenge in the heavyweight division. The 38-year-old Brazilian trains out of Teixeira MMA and Fitness and has established himself as one of the most dangerous strikers on the roster, connecting at 62 percent accuracy while landing 5.16 significant strikes per minute. Standing six-foot-four with a 79-inch reach, he brings elite knockout power into a division that is not his home.

Standing opposite him will be Ciryl Gane, ranked second in the heavyweight division and carrying a 14-2 record. The 36-year-old Frenchman out of MMA Factory is widely regarded as one of the most technically refined heavyweights in the world, posting a striking accuracy of 61 percent and an output of 5.29 significant strikes per minute. His 81-inch reach gives him a two-inch advantage over Pereira on the feet.

Why it matters

  • Pereira is moving up from light heavyweight, testing his power and frame against a true heavyweight contender
  • Gane at 14-2 and ranked second represents the clearest path to heavyweight gold for any challenger in the division
  • A win for Pereira would cement his status as a two-division champion and one of the most dominant fighters of his era
  • Adesanya's endorsement adds a personal dimension to the buildup given his long-running rivalry with Pereira
