Conor McGregor says his next UFC appearance will close out his contract, but not his career. The former two-division champion told listeners he plans to move into bare-knuckle boxing once the deal runs out.

McGregor said he intends to lay down his gloves in the octagon on the final fight of his UFC contract, "not to retire, to announce bare knuckle." He is already a part-owner of BKFC, the bare-knuckle promotion, which makes a move into its ring a natural step for the Irishman.

McGregor's recent form

McGregor, 38, holds a record of 22-7-0 and fights out of SBG Ireland. The southpaw from Ireland stands five-foot-nine (175 cm) with a 74-inch (188 cm) reach.

His most recent recorded fight came on July 11, 2026, when he lost by first-round KO/TKO to Max Holloway at UFC 329. That defeat followed a run of setbacks: he lost to Dustin Poirier by doctor's stoppage in the first round at UFC 264 on July 10, 2021, and by second-round KO/TKO at UFC 257 on January 23, 2021. All three of his most recent recorded fights ended in losses, and each ended inside the distance.

The numbers show why striking has always been the core of his game. McGregor lands 5.27 significant strikes per minute at 49 percent accuracy, while his takedown output is modest at 0.66 per 15 minutes and his submission attempts sit at 0.1 per 15 minutes.

Why it matters

  • McGregor's comments suggest his next UFC fight is the last on his current contract, though no opponent or date was mentioned.
  • A move to bare-knuckle boxing would take a striker with a 49 percent accuracy rate into a format with no wrestling-heavy exchanges and no submissions to worry about.
  • His ownership stake in BKFC means he would be stepping into a promotion in which he already has a business interest.

No opponent, date or venue for his final UFC fight has been mentioned, and no details of a bare-knuckle debut have been given. For now, the plan comes from McGregor's own words about how he wants his UFC run to end and what he wants to do next.
